Description

Fantasia "Dance of the Hours" Ben Ali Gator and Hyacinth Hippo Original Courvoisier Layout Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). An original vintage layout featuring Ben Ali Gator and Hyacinth Hippo from Fantasia's "Dance of the Hours," this elegant drawing captures the courtly-comic duet that crescendos into the segment's grand finale. Ben Ali-leader of the Dancers of the Night and a stand-in for Enzo Grimaldo-casts aside his cape as he attempts to woo Hyacinth (a Laura Adorno analogue); she rebuffs, then teases, and the chase begins-flirtation, flourish, and a splash into the fountain before their final embrace. Rendered in graphite with subtle color-pencil touches on 12-field animation paper, the layout establishes camera angle, character spacing, and action cues-the visual blueprint that guided animators and background painters. Matted to 19" x 14", the artwork bears the customary "WDP" stamp associated with Courvoisier pieces and includes a Courvoisier certificate beneath the mat, linking it to the San Francisco gallery that first elevated Disney production art to fine-art status. Condition is vintage Good, with toning, edge wear, and pinholes consistent with studio use and age-a rare prize for Fantasia and Courvoisier collectors.
