Description

Castle in the Sky Captain Dola Production Cel and Animation Drawing (Studio Ghibli, 1986). The old but energetic Captain Dola launches a pirate attack on Muska's airship to retrieve Sheeta's blue crystal pendant in the very first scene of Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky. This high-flying adventure film was the very first to be produced by Studio Ghibli, and it is considered an influential classic in the steampunk and dieselpunk subgenres of fantasy. Seen at the 1:48 mark of the landmark Ghibli film, this original production cel has a large hand-painted image area of 12.5" x 6.5" on the 13.75" x 9" acetate. In addition, this cel is joined by its matching original rough animation/layout drawing, also known as genga by collectors. Exceptionally rare, animation drawings like this one are attributed to lead animators. The drawing is rendered in graphite and color pencil on studio animation paper. The cel is numbered A7 in the upper right corner, and each piece shows minor handling and edge wear. The condition overall is Very Good.
