Description
Eyvind Earle Sleeping Beauty Maleficent Production Cel and Pan Master Production Background Setup (Walt Disney, 1959). Maleficent, in all her malevolent glory, has never looked better than when placed on top of a background painted by master craftsman Eyvind Earle. This hand-inked, hand-painted production cel of Maleficent is placed on a hand-painted pan Master production background. It is a magnificent setup! Maleficent is a full 8" on a 16 field cel. The cel is placed on a 33" x 12" pan of the outside of Maleficent's Castle, with a clear cel placed over the 16 field cel and background. The pan background is marked in the bottom margin "2082 18.0 11.2". The background is initialed in red Conte crayon. Due to the style of the castle, it is believed this is one of the production backgrounds painted by Eyvind Earle. The film had backgrounds painted by Earle along with some painted by Walt Peregoy, Thelma Witmer, Al Dempster, and Ralph Hulett... among others. This film took ten years to make and was the studio's first feature to be filmed in Technirama widescreen. It was originally released on January 29, 1959.
