Description

Sleeping Beauty Landscape and Castle with Briar Rose Pastel Concept Drawing Original Art by Kay Nielsen (Walt Disney, 1959). Mr. Kay Nielsen (1886 - 1957) was a Danish master artist who is best known by animation collectors for his contributions to Disney films, like the amazing "Night on Bald Mountain" segment in Fantasia. He also did a number of early concept drawings, including art for The Little Mermaid decades before production began on the 1989 animated film. Here's an absolutely gorgeous original Sleeping Beauty pastel concept drawing of Briar Rose standing on a tree trunk in an idyllic landscape with the castle in the misty background, done during his brief tenure at Disney, which lasted from 1937 to 1941. Thanks to John Hench, Kay was briefly rehired by Disney in 1952 to work on Sleeping Beauty concepts like this. You can see a similar concept drawing with a closer look at the castle by Kay Nielsen on page 525 of The Walt Disney Film Archives book published by Taschen. This drawing is matted with an opening of 7.75" x 5.75", in an ornate Plexiglas-front frame measuring 18.5" x 16.5". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The art condition is Very Good to Fine, with tack holes noticeable in the upper corners.
