Description
Sleeping Beauty RARE Briar Rose Sequence of 6 Color Model Cels (Walt Disney, 1959). "I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream..." Featured here are six remarkable hand-painted and hand-inked color model cels of Briar Rose (Princess Aurora) in sequence singing the classic song "Once Upon a Dream". The color model cel is a special animation cel created by the ink and paint department to ensure consistent coloring throughout the entire production. It shows the official color palette for a specific character, prop, or effect and is used by the painters as a guide to prevent colors from clashing with each other or the background. Collectors should keep their eyes on this offering of six perfect picture full-figure images of the iconic Disney princess; this is a rare find for any fan of the beloved classic film. These cels were used for the infamous Sequence 8 "Once Upon a Dream" which was the "pilot sequence" for the entire film and took over a year to complete costing Disney $10,000 alone out of the $6 million dollar budget. It was the first scene that Disney began working on with Disney Legend and one of Walt's "Nine Old Men", Eric Larson (1905 - 1988) at the helm but as the scene evolved and grew more complex, including Walt Disney (1901 - 1966) wanting to add animals to the scene, ultimately caused Eric Larson to step down. The final product of Sequence 8 has earned itself the title of being timeless due to its perfect composition and meticulous craft. The cel images of Briar Rose (Princess Aurora) were considered more challenging than any other character as Don Bluth, who worked as a clean-up artist, once said, "We felt that we were making the Lord's prayer." since each line on her character had to be an exact width. Mary Costa portrayed the protagonist Briar Rose/Princess Aurora and is the last surviving voice actress of the three Disney Princesses created in Walt Disney's lifetime. She was given the honor of becoming a Disney Legend in 1999. These fantastic images can be seen between the 26:00 - 26:04 timestamp. The cel images of Briar Rose measures at 3.25" x 6.25" which were hand-inked at the Disney Ink and Paint Department in Burbank. All color model cels are displayed over a print background for presentation purposes. The overall condition is Very Good some warping of the character images, and light handling wear and edge wear.Auction Info
