Eyvind Earle - Sleeping Beauty Castle Interior 23" x 9" Signed Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1959). Offered in this lot is an extraordinary concept painting of the castle interior from Walt Disney's timeless animated masterpiece Sleeping Beauty by the lauded Disney Legend Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000). A prominent figure of Walt Disney's 1950s films, Eyvind Earle provided production design artwork for Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, and most definitively, Sleeping Beauty. Sleeping Beauty's distinctive angular look and feel is owed almost entirely to Eyvind Earle's unique concepts, and he is also credited for creating the stunning backgrounds of the castle interiors throughout the film. Drawing inspiration from Renaissance paintings, Eyvind Earle utilized one-point perspective for his scenes and filled them with elaborate detail and texture. The interplay between gold, purple, and hot pink make this concept piece a true feast for the eyes. This remarkable 23" x 9" gouache on board painting was the inspiration for the scene at the 1:12:38 mark. It is boldly signed by the artist in the lower right. Eyvind Earle's concept paintings, especially brightly colored, over-sized pieces like this one, are highly sought-after, and it is certain to be the crowning jewel of any collection.
