Description

Mary Blair - "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" Ichabod and Headless Horseman Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1949). "Next morning, Ichabod's hat was found. And close beside it, a shattered pumpkin. But there was no trace of the schoolmaster..." Mary Blair deftly captures the dread of the highly suspenseful and genuinely scary final scene of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" in this remarkable original concept/color key painting. Featuring a signature Mary Blair full moon, spooky owl eyes in a tree (revealed to be fireflies in the film), and the frightening Headless Horseman himself, this stunning piece was integral to the harrowing look and feel of the film's greatest scene. Created for the moments beginning at the 1:04:07 of the package film Ichabod and Mr. Toad, this gorgeous piece is hand-painted masterfully in gouache on 10" x 9" illustration board. A similar image can be seen on page 85 of John Canemaker's book Magic, Color, Flair: The World of Mary Blair. Minor handling and edge wear with pinholes in the corners, and the condition of this stunning piece is Very Good.
