Description

Walt Disney Signed Peter Pan RARE Dye-Transfer Print (Walt Disney, c. 1953). "I've got you this time, Pan!" Here's that no-good sea-faring Disney Villain, Captain Hook in a sword fight with the boy who refused to grow up. This is an outstanding Walt Disney autograph on a 10" x 8" studio dye transfer print of Captain Hook, Peter Pan, Wendy, and Smee on the deck of the Jolly Roger. This is the same image Disney used for some of their theatrical lobby cards. The piece has the classic cream-color mat, framed to 16" x 16.5". The mat is signed in grease pencil by Walt Disney in his iconic loopy-style. It is signed "To Robbie," son of Robert Lewine, former ABC Programming Executive who helped persuade Walt Disney to make his first foray into television ("Walt Disney's Disneyland") with ABC. Walt Disney's loopy-logo of an autograph is instantly recognizable. His signature was honed over many years. Disney Legend, Ub Iwerks, recalls meeting Walt in 1919, when a young seventeen-year-old Walter E. Disney was seated at a drawing board, practicing variations on his signature. Diane Disney Miller once remarked that her father took great pride in his signature, and he would often make a big production out of signing it. His hand would start moving the pen in circles even before it reached the paper. Walt Disney's signature varied during his lifetime, as do most of our signatures. As he grew older, it became more flowery and less legible and he increasingly used a red grease pencil instead of pen and ink for his autographs. Noted in graphite pencil under the left side of the matboard aperture is "Walt Disney's Peter Pan". This fantastic Walt-signed piece is a must-have for discerning collectors of vintage Disney, not just as an autograph from Walt Disney, but also as it relates to Walt's venture into television programming and his Disneyland theme park. The item is in Good condition. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition.
