Service With a Smile RARE Black-and-White Betty Boop Production Cel (Max Fleischer, 1937). "Hello, this is Betty... service with a smile!" Hi-De-Ho-Tel proprietor Betty Boop-oop-a-doop is on the horn in this early animation cel from the Fleischer Studios Betty Boop Cartoon, Service With a Smile! Directed by Dave Fleischer, "Service With a Smile" was released theatrically on September 23, 1937, outstandingly starring Grampy and featuring a brand-spanking new namesake song performed by Betty Boop. The short musical motion picture is best remembered for Betty Boop, who is overwhelmed by the complaints of disgruntled guests, and Grampy, who puts on his ol' "thinking cap" and invents a few clever contraptions to save the day. This celluloid drawing appears around the 3:45 mark of the short film, when the candlestick telephones begin to ring uncontrollably. This production cel of Betty Boop is "the tops", masterfully accomplished in a hand-inked and hand-painted achromatic palette, rendered at an image size of 2.5" x 2.5", on a cel sheet. The cel is framed under Plexiglas to an overall size of 17.25" x 16.25" with a 6" x 4.5" mat aperture. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The stunningly beautiful, Depression-Era artwork is in Good condition, exhibiting wrinkling to the cel, and wear to some of its inked lines. Animation enthusiasts will need to "shake a leg" over this well-preserved cartoon artifact that commemorates a memorable moment from a classic Betty Boop Cartoon!Auction Info
