Description

Winsor McCay Gertie the Dinosaur Animation Drawing (1914). Gertie, the animated dinosaur, goes through her motions in this original animation drawing. It was created by animation pioneer Winsor McCay in the production of his landmark animated film. Over the course of three years (1911-1914) and three films (Little Nemo in 1911 and How a Mosquito Operates in 1912, plus Gertie), Winsor McCay established the method of animated filmmaking that was to be the standard for the remainder of the 20th Century: a series of numbered drawings made by hand, each slightly different from the one before and the one that follows, and registered for the camera. Here's a stunning original animation drawing created by McCay depicting a happily smiling Gertie in a picture-perfect pose. Unlike most animation drawings, this one was actually the final filmed product, seen on camera! The drawing measures about 8.75" x 6.5", and it is framed with glass, with an overall frame size of 16.5" x 15". The drawing is in Good to Very Good condition, with some handling and edge wear from age. There are registration marks in the corners of the drawing. The frame is sold as-is.
