Description
Joe Kubert and Norman Maurer Studio - "Little Eva 3-D" #2 Page Original Art, Group of 32 (St. John, circa 1953). Little Eva's lighthearted adventures were among the first to be presented in 3-D comic books. Leonard Maurer detailed the creation of the first 3-D comic book, "With the idea fully formed in my head, I immediately turned around, picked up some acetates, went back to Norm's hotel room, and explained the process to him. We then collaborated on a short, short story, and he went immediately to work with pencil, brush, ink and paint, following my technical instructions while I did the opaqueing. Around 2:00 AM we finished the real world's first 3-D comic book page entitled, 'The Three Stooges in the Third Dimension' starring Moe, Shemp and Larry." To create the 3-D effect, each figure and background element is hand-inked onto several layers of acetate, which sit over a background on Craftint paper. The art measures approximately 12" x 18" and, aside from some overall aging, and flaking paint from the acetate overlays, the condition averages Good. From the John McLaughlin Collection.Auction Info
