Neon Genesis Evangelion Shinji Ikari Production Cel with Production Background (Gainax, c. 1995-96). The conflicted protagonist Shinji Ikari is presented here in this outstanding hand-painted original production cel from the monumental anime hit Neon Genesis Evangelion. Widely credited for breathing new life into the anime industry in Japan, Evangelion is one of the most recognized titles in the history of the medium. Celebrated for its multi-faceted characters, philosophical depth, and groundbreaking animation direction from the great Hideaki Anno, this series revolutionized the popular but waning mecha genre in the 1990s. A characteristically perfect image of the brooding main character Shinji, this 12 field cel is presented on an original production background from another series. The background is rendered beautifully in gouache on background board, and the cel is numbered C6 in the upper right corner. Minor studio handling and edge wear, and the condition is Very Good.
