Description

Ninja Scroll Jubei Kibagami Production Cel Setup with Production Background (Madhouse, 1993). "But he suckered me into it. Trapped me. I'll die of his poison in half a day." The mercenary Jubei shows his shuriken wound, inflicted by the Tokugawa spy, Dakuan, explaining how he got coerced into working for him. We have in this lot a sensational hand-painted production cel setup from the momentous anime movie Ninja Scroll, presenting our protagonist, the seasoned swordsman Jubei Kibagami. Written and directed by the famous Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Ninja Scroll is credited as one of the anime films that helped popularize anime in the West, along with Ghost in the Shell and Akira, and prominently featured the director's emblematic style, later seen in the spectacular film Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Frustrated at the poisoned cut that binds him to assassinate the Eight Devils of Kimon, this two-layer 12-field production cel was created for the scene at the 44:12 mark of the acclaimed anime film and showcased our protagonist holding his sword and shaded by a tree, measuring a figure size of 6.5" x 7.5", featured on a rocky production background done in gouache on background board, numbered C-144.146 in the top right corner. The cel presents very faint paint wear on Jubei's hair tips. In Very Good condition with minor handling and edge wear from production.
