Donald Duck's Toy Train Little Golden Book Front Cover Illustration by Richard Kelsey Original Art with Title Overlay and #D18 Published Book in Framed Display (Walt Disney, 1950/1951). Just like Walt Disney and two of Walt's "Nine Old Men" Ollie Johnston and Ward Kimball, Donald Duck had a working miniature railroad built in his back yard! That's the story in this cool Little Golden Book. The book has a copyright date of 1950 listed inside, and it also mentions that the book is based on a Donald Duck/Chip 'n Dale cartoon, Out of Scale but that short wasn't released until 11/2/1951! Whatever the reason for the mis-matched dates, this front cover image of engineer Donald checking his watch as "crew" Chip and Dale lend a hand is a fun and charming piece of original artwork. The art is from the hand of animator/writer/director Dick Kelsey (1905 - 1987), who worked on Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo and several other classic Disney animated films. The cover illustration is painted in gouache on board or paper and matted with an opening of approximately 9.75" x 12.25". A second opening shows the acetate overlay with the hand-painted title lettering, with some of the red and white paint flaked off, with an aperture size of 8.25" x 2.75". A third aperture includes a copy of the published book. The display is framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 27.5" x 19.75" x 1.25". The wooden frame has a few very minor scratches and marks. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition.
