Hanna-Barbera Pitch Cel for Shows Including Scooby-Doo and Josie and the Pussycats (Hanna-Barbera, 1969). This spectacularly-rare piece was created for a slide presentation given by Bill Hanna himself to pitch the concepts of four new animated shows. Two of the shows were never produced, while the other two ended up becoming extremely popular and beloved Saturday morning cartoons. This cel reads, from top to bottom: "Wikki Wackies"; "He and She"; "Josie and the Pussycats"; and, of course, "Scooby Doo." This is one of the earliest existing pieces of art to mention Scooby-Doo, as it was created for a pitch before the show was even being officially produced. The same is true for Josie and the Pussycats. The setup is composed of two 12 field cels (with one blank cel in-between). The first cel contains the stenciled show concepts and title. The second cel has a rainbow of different colors of paper affixed to it to create a vibrant background. This is a truly incredible piece of history for Scooby-Doo and Josie and the Pussycats. Scooby-Doo, Where are You! would go on to air its first episode in 1969, and Josie and the Pussycats premiered in 1970. The setup is in Very Good condition, with some handling and edge wear.Auction Info
