Mickey Mouse Goes Christmas Shopping Little Golden Book Interior Page Illustrations by Bob Moore and Xavier Atencio Original Art Group of 5 plus #D33 Published Book (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1953). Mickey Mouse takes his young nephews Mortie and Ferdie Christmas shopping in this Little Golden Book #D33. Here are five original interior illustrations from the book, credited to "The Walt Disney Studio Adapted by Bob Moore and Xavier Atencio" on the title page. Disney legends Bob Moore (1920 - 2001) and Xavier Atencio (1919 - 2017) were both longtime Disney employees. Bob joined the studio in 1940 and stayed until 1983; he worked as an animator on feature films like Dumbo and The Three Caballeros plus shorts. He became head of the Art Department in 1951 and was one of the artists Walt Disney assigned to autograph items for him, as Bob could mimic Walt's handwriting to a "T." Xavier joined in 1938 as an artist, working until 1965 when he became an Imagineer until his retirement in 1985. The lovely original art for this children's book includes the title page illustration of Mortie and Ferdie moving a sled full of wrapped presents, with an approximate image size of 6.25" x 4.5". Page 19 has the boys looking through to door of the spaceship ride they were on and fell asleep in; the image size is 8" x 7.25". Page 20 shows the store toy department afterhours; the size is 9.5" x 10.25". While in the locked store, Mortie and Ferdie encounter Santa Claus (actually a "Santa's Helper," the department store's Santa impersonator), here warning the children to next time "stay close to your grown-ups" on page 25, with an image size of 9.5" x 12.5". Finally, Santa's Helper waves goodbye as the boys are reunited with Mickey and Minnie Mouse; this image measures 8.75" x 8.75". The art is in gouache with airbrushed highlights on two-ply Bristol boards that range in size from 10" x 7.5" up to 9.5" x 13.75". A first-printing copy of the published book is included. The overall art condition is Very Good with minor handling, bits of masking tape, and tack or staple holes in the outer margins. Ho ho ho!More information about Walt Disney Studios - Fab Five.
