Description

Horus, Prince of the Sun Rare Horus 18'' Pan-Sized Production Cel with Matching 18'' Animation Drawing (Toei Animation, 1968). Anime fans and collectors, this is a rare one! We've never seen anything from Horus, Prince of the Sun and this lot includes a beautiful hand-painted pan-sized production cel of the protagonist with a matching graphite with color pencil animation drawing from the film! Released on 7/21/1986, Horus, Prince of the Sun (also called The Little Norse Prince in the US) was set in Iron Age Scandinavia and followed Horus as he tried to protect a Norse village from the ice wizard who destroyed his own home. It was notably the directorial debut of Isao Takahata (1935 - 2018) and included key animation by renowned artists Hayao Miyazaki, Yasuo Otsuka (1931 - 2021), and Yoichi Kotabe. The cel and animation drawing can be found at about 1:00:09 in the film as the townsfolk try to drive Horus out of the village, though he stubbornly refuses to leave just yet. The character measures about 9.5'' x 8.75'' on 18'' x 10'' 3-peghole cel and paper with both marked A4. Good condition overall for this incredibly rare lot from the beginning of Takahata and Miyazaki's career with a light age-related toning, minor curling at the edges of the cel, faint paint wear, and the cel partially adhered to the drawing.
