Van Gogh Museum × Pokémon "Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat" SOLD-OUT 21.5" x 27.5" Fine Art Giclée on Canvas by Naoyo Kimura (Van Gogh Museum/The Pokémon Company, 2023). "Step into the world of Vincent van Gogh and Pokémon," boasts the press release for a one-of-a-kind collaboration between The Van Gogh Museum and The Pokémon Company which is celebrated in grand form with this sold-out 21.5" x 27.5" fine art giclée on canvas featuring beloved mascot Pikachu replicating the style of Van Gogh's 1887 "Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat" by long-time Pokémon illustrator Naoyo Kimura. Fall of 2023 saw this unexpected collaboration come to fruition in celebration of the Museum's 50th anniversary as well as the 170th anniversary of Vincent van Gogh's birth with a new permanent collection of six Pokémon-themed reimaginings of the artist's best known works. "Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat" was created by Naoyo Kimura who has been illustrating for the Pokémon Trading Card Game since 1998; Kimura also contributed a version of "Wheatfield with Crows" (1890) featuring Honchkrow and Corviknight's evolutionary lines for the exhibit. The exhibit ran from September 28 through the following January 7, and was accompanied by a delightful selection of merchandise available from the Museum's shop including this exquisite canvas giclée replicating Kimura's work. The exhibit also promised a special promo Pokémon trading card featuring this Pikachu for attendees, which caused a veritable frenzy on opening day for the Museum's gift shop and no doubt contributed to how quickly the related merchandise sold out. The giclée has been printed on 340 gsm high quality finely woven canvas with 12-color archival inks, and was hand-varnished several times to protect the print and enhance its brightness and depth of the color. It is presented in its original frame without glass measuring 26.25" x 32.25" x 2.25" overall with an aperture of 21.25" x 27.25" and includes museum copyright information on the reverse. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. With typical handling and edge wear, overall this rare Pokémon and Van Gogh collaboration is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
