The Candid Candidate Production Background and Betty Boop Drawing (Fleischer Studios, c. 1937). This is an original, hand-painted production background from the 1937 Betty Boop short entitled The Candid Candidate. Betty Boop campaigns for Grampy to be the new mayor, and he wins by one vote. Betty gets everything in his office ready. But the moment Grampy sits down, citizens begin arriving to complain and to demand he fix things. This great background, depicting City Hall, can be seen in the short near the 1:37 time mark. The background was painted in gouache for black and white viewing on 12 field background board. Along with the background is a trimmed image of Betty Boop. This is a production drawing trimmed to 3.5" x 6". The drawing exhibits age-related toning and edge wear. The drawing is in Fair condition. The background is in Very Good condition.
