Description

Frank Willard and Ferd Johnson Moon Mullins Daily Comic Strip Original Art Undated (Chicago Tribune, 1930). Uncouth Uncle Willie barges in on a late-night tryst between Emmy Schmaltz and the newly wealthy Commodore Gruntmore. Excellent body-language and facial expressions, here, and an emphatic job of pen-point inking from longtime assistant Johnson -- who eventually became more of a brush-inker. The strip is undated, but it belongs to a continuity of mid-1930. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 20" x 6". Light toning. Small stain in second gutter. One small tear (upper right) extends slightly into the artwork. Very Good condition.
