Description

George McManus Bringing Up Father Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-29-52 (King Features Syndicate, 1952). An unusual entry in the long-running funnypapers classic: McManus devotes each panel to a reminiscent flashback about various eccentric personalities while leading character Jiggs (off-camera) narrates in a sarcastic "voice". Beautifully illustrated in a fine, old-fashioned pen line. A late-in-life effort from McManus (1884-1954), who had drawn the strip since 1913, and seldom entrusted the main art to any assistant. Ink and Zipatone shading film over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 18" x 5". Adhesive staining in shaded areas. Light toning and marginal editorial marks. In Very Good condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
