Description

Walt Kelly Pogo Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 2-19-59 (The Hall Syndicate, 1959). Kelly's batty humor gets a workout in this showcase for the bat-bums known as Bewitched, Bothered, and Bemildred (sic) -- the names represent a takeoff on Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart's hit Broadway tune of 1940, "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered." Kelly's bright wordplay is a marvel of double-talk and punsterism. His blue-line penciling can be seen beneath the inks, covering a 16" x 4.5" expanse of Bristol board. Inscribed "to Ferd with admiration." (The wording is a nod to fellow cartoonist Ferd Johnson, of Moon Mullins.) The toned art, with one center crease, is in Very Good condition.
