Description

Frank Willard Moon Mullins Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 5 (News Syndicate Co., 1945-46). A brilliant selection, drawn from a novelistic sequence involving boisterous Mamie Mullins' career as a wrestler, along with an inheritance for her bum of a husband, Uncle Willie. Willard's masterstroke was to populate Moon Mullins with disreputable, ridiculous characters -- and then to make them all sympathetic and sometimes even admirable. The dates are 10-20-45 and (from 1946) 1-5, 1-18, 1-19, and 2-4. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Some panels show incomplete erasure, enabling one to observe the pencil-structuring with which Willard defined his figures. Image areas, 19.75" x 6.25". Moderate toning and scattered stain-spotting. Very Good to Excellent condition.
