Description
David Wright Carol Day Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 2 (London Daily Mail, 1960). Leading lady Carol Day aside, the scene-stealers of these episodes (numbered 1050-1051) are weasly trust-fund brat Oswald Patcham and the mysterious Capt. Riker, a guest in the wealthy Patcham household. Oswald cowers in his rooms, dreading the arrival of visitors. Riker shows the most menacing scowl this side of Bela Lugosi -- whom, incidentally, artist Wright had used as a facial model. (Oswald's facial model is another classic villain of the movies, Martin Kosleck.) The sequence comes from a story-arc called "Last of the Line," about the decayed Patcham family. Wright applies his customary woodcut-like strokes from a fine crow-quill pen. Both compositions feature blue-crayon shading, with the artist's marginal instructions to the engraver to "tint, please." Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image areas, 17" x 5". Moderately toned, with marginal markings and lightly barked corners. In Very Good condition.More information about David Wright.
