George S. Eisenberg G.I. Joe Illustration Original Art (undated). While serving in World War II, George Eisenberg began working on his "Sailor's Diary", which represents one of America's largest collections of WW II memorabilia created by a single artist. He has been honored by the US Government four times for this work. Post-war, he worked for many years in commercial art. Eisenberg was also responsible for the first G.I. Joe action figure illustrations for Mattel. This piece, produced in pure graphite on illustration board, is marked on the back of the matting as "Sketch Art for GI Joe", and signed by his hand there. The original art is signed in the 19" x 13.5" image area. It is matted out to 25" x 20". In Excellent condition.
