Description

C.C. Beck The Collector #29 "Captain Marvel/Shazam" Parody Complete 1-Page Story Original Art (Bill G. Wilson Publ., 1974). Beck's homecoming to his signature character, Captain "Shazam" Marvel, should have been a joyous occasion -- if not for the fact that Beck despised Denny O'Neil's new scripts and resented the publisher (DC Comics) for its having put the original Captain Marvel out of business, in the first place. Beck drew this piece as a subversive dig at the revival, muttering his contempt for the characters and finally revealing himself as Captain Marvel's worst enemy, the deranged Dr. Sivana. Odd and fascinating, that the artist responsible for such a jolly comics feature should have turned out to be such a curmudgeon -- but there you have it. Brilliant and provocative. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 9.75". Lightly toned, and in Excellent condition.
