Description

Michael Silver Hidden Letter Painting Original Art (c. 1950s). Here is a striking departure from Silver's customary work in romance and glamour for the commercial advertising trade: This large-scale, film noir-styled scene involves the search for a hidden letter. The figure at right recalls the familiar noir image of a hard-boiled detective. The publishing pedigree is undocumented -- but a rubberstamp imprint (reverse) shows the New York address of Ace Magazines, a prominent publisher of pulp fiction. Acrylics on illustration board. Image area, 28" x 19". The margins and borders show extensive smudging and random brush-strokes, but the image itself is in Excellent condition, with boldly applied paint textures.
