Description

Harvey Kurtzman Flash Gordon Daily Comic Strip Preliminary Original Art 3-19-53 (King Features Syndicate, 1953). Harvey Kurtzman wrote several story arcs for Flash Gordon in the single year he worked on the strip. This is from the "Mr. Murlin" story arc, a time travel story set in 1945 Europe to steal a German secret weapon. A painting of head Nazi Adolf Hitler can be seen in the first panel. Kurtzman produced these wonderful loose layouts for Dan Barry, as part of his script. The Kurtzman pencil art was also published on Page 129 of the 1988 book Dan Barry and Harvey Kurtzman Flash Gordon. Rendered in graphite on 18.75" x 6" onionskin paper. Matted to 22.5" x 9.25". Toned and in Very Good condition.
