Description

Rand Taylor Homer Hoopee Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 25 (AP Newsfeatures, Early 1950s). Gotta love a comic strip with the gumption to call its principal character Homer Hoopee. Like the similarly named, more famous Major Amos Hoople of Our Boarding House fame, Homer Hoopee is a self-important buffoon who gets no respect in his own household. Unlike the sedentary Major Hoople, Homer is a vigorous go-getter who is bound to succeed at something, somehow, someday. The slapstick epic ran under Taylor's guidance from 1943 until 1952, so his signature here fixes the artwork pretty well within the early 1950s. (Both the artist and the syndicate usually neglected to date the pieces beyond month/day.) Gags are mostly self-contained, with occasional stabs at day-to-day continuity. These strips comprise ink on Bristol board, with an image area of 16" x 4.5". The art averages Very Good condition, with toning, scattered corrections, and a pervasive musty odor.
