Description

Gladys Parker Mopsy Daily Single-Panel Comic Strip Original Art dated 1-29-65 (Bell-McClure Syndicate, 1965). As flapper-turned-feminist Parker advanced through her 50s, her alter-ego character, Mopsy, only grew sexier and more controlling. This splendid example comes from a stretch where Mopsy flirted with the idea of marriage, starting out with a premature visit to a counselor. Brilliant latter-day Art Deco/Art Nouveau technique, distinguished by some of this finest pen-line work this side of Aubrey Beardsley. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 8.5" x 9.5". Pen-point doodles (testing the nib) in margins. Excellent condition.
