Description

Gladys Parker Mopsy Daily Single-Panel Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-2-?? (Bell-McClure Syndicate, 1960s). Parker's flippant alter-ego character, Mopsy, finds an unusual reason to visit a movie theatre. Brilliant latter-day Art Deco/Art Nouveau technique, distinguished by some of this finest pen-line work this side of Aubrey Beardsley. The artist and the syndicate neglected to specify the year on this one -- probably 1964-65, given the prevailing technique of that late-in-life period. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 8.5" x 9.5". Light scuffing and pen-point doodles (testing the nib) in margins. Excellent condition.
