Description

Wilson McCoy The Phantom Unique Personalized Original Art (c. 1950s). McCoy had taken on The Phantom, one of the earliest costumed-hero comic strips, during World War II, and stayed with the feature until 1961. His lithe combination of cartooning and illustrative realism shows to striking effect in this free-standing piece, depicting the character at the entrance to his mysterious Skull Cave. Inscribed and signed at lower margin. Ink and watercolor over graphite on Bristol Board. This piece has an image area of 9" x 12", framed to 16" x 19.25". Excellent condition.
