Description

Bernie Wrightson signed original Frankenstein published plate depicting the Monster and his creator facing off in the Arctic. (1977) Accomplished in pencil, pen, and ink on 15 x 20 in. artist board. Image measures 11 x 16 in. Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein stands as one of the finest illustrated books of the 20th century. This is a published illustration seen in Wrightson's book, a labor of love that took him over seven years to complete. Wrightson commented he wanted the piece(s) to "have the feel of steel engravings, something of that era". He certainly succeeded. Depicting "Doctor Frankenstein" and his unholy creation. The caption, written in Wrightson's hand, states, "...it was the wretch whom I had created". A rare published plate featuring both creator, and creation. Signed in lower right of art, "Wrightson". Exhibiting toning to borders and a strip of surface loss under the caption above the border. Art remains in very fine condition.
