Description

Disneyland - Hand-Painted Disneyland Railroad Sign from the Main Street Omnibus (Walt Disney, c. 1974-1980s). Exceedingly rare! This is one of the original hand-painted side panel signs from the double-decker Omnibus. Inspired by the tour buses of New York's Fifth Avenue during the 1920s and the open-topped vintage vehicles of Travel Town at Griffith Park in Los Angeles, the Omnibus made its Disneyland debut in 1956. It carried passengers on a one-way ride along Main Street, USA. Interestingly, the first time the words "Disneyland Omnibus" appeared in print was on the cover of a 1945 Walt Disney Mickey Mouse, Ltd. licensed hardcover book. The illustration on the cover featured Mickey Mouse at the wheel of a double-decker bus with the words "To Disneyland" over the drivers' section of the cab. This was more than a decade before Disneyland and the Omnibus became a reality! This is a rare opportunity to acquire this prize as only a few of these were ever made and almost never come to market. It's the first one we've seen. The sign was painted at Disneyland's sign shop and measures 24" x 13". The piece is framed to 26" x 15.5". Frames are sold as-is. The sign is in Very Good condition. A must-have for discerning collectors.
From the Rummell Collection.
