Description

The Secret of NIMH Pan Production Background (Don Bluth/United Artists, 1982). The Secret of NIMH was Don Bluth's directorial debut and remains a fan-favorite nearly 40 years after it's release. Animator Don Bluth got his start at Disney but became frustrated with the studio's cutbacks in their animation department. As a result he went on to form his own studio dedicated to a higher level of quality than what was being offered in animated feature films at the time. As a result artwork from his films is exceptional both in artistry and scale. This is an original hand-painted production background of the caves leading to Nicodemus' lair. It can be seen at the 47:46 mark as Mr. Ages leads Mrs. Brisby to meet the ancient leader of the Rats of NIMH. It's an absolutely stunning gouache painting of a bleak underground passage that measures approximately 29" x 14". The border is marked 009 Sc. 1 B.G. Background artists on this film were Ron Diaz, David Goetz, Don Moore, and Jim Coleman. This is a masterpiece from a studio that was created to compete with Disney. Minor handling and edge wear. Condition is Very Good.
