Description

Master Comics #1 (Fawcett Publications, 1940) Condition: FN-. This oversized comic (10.5" x 14") made history by almost causing a lawsuit! DC thought that Master Man, the title character, was a little too similar to their hero Superman, and once they threatened to sue, Fawcett withdrew the character after just six issues. This was just the second Fawcett series after Whiz Comics, and it offered 52 huge pages of action for 15¢, but its size made it difficult to store and thus to preserve in nice condition, making high-grade copies all but non-existent. Rated a Gerber "7" or "scarce" on the Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books' Scarcity Index. Has some cryptic writing on the cover (in pen) and at the top of the first page (in pencil). Overstreet 2023 FN 6.0 value = $3,000.
