Description

McDonaldland Mural Design Drawings Original Art by Wes Cook Group of 2 (McDonald's/Setmakers, c. 1970s). Setmakers offered McDonald's franchisees the option of decorating their stores with custom designed hand-painted wall murals. These magnificent one-of-a-kind works of art were created by Wes Cook, who later went on to design theme parks for Disney as an Imagineer. This lot contains two of Mr. Cook's original graphite mural designs. The first includes Ronald McDonald and Hamburglar amid a scenic vista of McDonaldland with Hamburger Patches, Apple Pie Trees, the Castle and a train pulling a car laden with thick shakes. Virtually every element within the image is numbered or lettered to serve as a color guide in the final painting process. The image measures a staggering 9.5" x 31.5" on on 18" x 36.5" vellum and it is signed by the artist and dated 8/14/77. A small tear at the top right edge has been repaired with tape. The second drawing is a slightly less detailed preliminary design of McDonaldland with Ronald, Officer Big Mac and Hamburglar. The Apple Pie Trees, Hamburger Patches and the Castle are all present with the addition of the Golden Arches bridge, which often served as the gateway to this magical land in McDonald's commercials. This drawing measures 9" x 30.5" on 11.5" x 32.5" vellum. Both pieces show minor handling wear, creases, and edge wear; otherwise, condition is Fine.
