Description

S. Clay Wilson The Checkered Demon #2 Illustration Original Art (Last Gasp, 1978). Wilson, pioneer of the Underground Comix movement, wallows deliberately in the most rancid subject matter one might imagine. Here, he places his signature character -- the Checkered Demon -- amidst a bloody turf war between rival motorcycle gangs. The wealth of artistic detail is as generous as the mayhem. Wilson's intricate line-art composition is intact, despite severe deterioration (water damage) in the page-stock itself. Ink over blue pencil on lightweight Bristol board. Image area, 15.5" x 11.75". Damaged and stained, with marginal tearing. Poor condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
