Description

Burne Hogarth Tarzan #620 Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 1-24-43 (United Feature Syndicate, 1943). The episode titled "Blockade" was part of the "Tarzan and the Barbarians" story arc that ran from August of 1942 until October of 1943. Big and bold, as you would expect from a Hogarth piece, this one delivers some fantastic work with light and shadow. Also, we love that portrait of the Viking chief Brughat. It has a striking "Jack Kirby" feel to it. Created in ink with red ink key lines over graphite on two sections of Bristol board with a combined image area of 19.5" x 26.5". Signed by Hogarth in Panel 10, where it is also incorrectly dated as 1942. It was indeed published in 1943. The logo is a replacement print, and is surrounded by glue residue from the original stat paste-up logo. There is a paste-up text correction in Panel 8 that has chipped. Plexiglas-front framed to 29" x 37". Very toned and in Good condition.
