Description
RoboCop: The Animated Series "MacNamara's Lab Training Room" Color Key Signed by Robert Schaefer (Marvel, 1988). "First a little target practice." Presented in this lot is a gorgeous hand-painted Color Key layout, of the evil Dr. McNamara's training room, produced for the animated series RoboCop signed by the artist Robert Schaefer (1938 - 2021). Robert had a prolific career in animation as a background artist, working for production studios including Hanna-Barbera, Jim Henson, Marvel, and Disney. With production by Marvel Productions Limited, this piece was crafted for a spin-off series based on the popular 1987 live-action feature film, RoboCop, which only ran for one abbreviated 12-episode season that aired from 10/1 to 12/17/1988. Color Keys like this one would be used in production to understand how light works from pre-production to post, with the note "Day" it appears to be a test of the lab in its brightest setting. A lab layout like this one, can be seen in Episode five of the series "The Man in the Iron Suit" at about 10:18 timestamp. The painting is approximately 11" x 6.75" on a 14.5" x 10.25" art board, created with gouache paint. Featured above the image are the title and production codes for the RoboCop series in ink, and below the image is Robert's hand-written signature in graphite pencil. With mild handling and edgewear, light paint remnants around the artwork that only lightly cross the image at the bottom right corner and top middle edge, and two staples that are over "Mac" and "003". The centered painting is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
