Description
Nick Cardy Aquaman #37 Cover Original Art (DC, 1968). "When the Sea dies..." This cover concept set the stage for a melodramatic masterpiece by the titanically talented Cardy. Once seen, this compelling image is nearly impossible to banish from your memory -- Aquaman, the Sea King, holding the fallen form of his beloved wife, Mera, even as the sea dries up, paralyzing Aqualad and the other denizens of the deep. Similar dramatic poses of a "fallen loved one" have been showcased on many celebrated comic book covers over the years, but few of them can equal the supreme artistry of Cardy's figure draftsmanship. Raw anguish is etched into Aquaman's suffering features. This Silver Age spectacular has an image area measuring approximately 12" x 18". The cover retains its original title logo photostat. The caption blurb, "When the Sea Dies..." isn't on the page and may have been done on an overlay, or on an intermediate production piece; otherwise, the art is in Excellent condition.
