Description

Norman Saunders Space Cards #76 "Visit to Mercury" Trading Card Illustration Original Art (Topps, 1957). A striking vision of a 1950s rocketship resting on the polar region of Mercury, as astronauts survey the vast frozen expanse, avoiding the scorching heat of the planet's sunlit side. With the space race capturing imaginations worldwide, Saunders brought that fascination to life in this colorful scene for the classic Topps space card set, imagining what a journey to Mercury might have looked like in the golden age of space art. Acrylic on Bristol board with an edge-to-edge image area of 4.75" x 3.5". Adhesive residue and paper affixed to bottom image area from missing stat text paste-up, and corner pinholes. In Very Good condition. Included is the original Topps trading card.
From the Howard Lowery Collection.
