Description

Dick Briefer Frankenstein #3 Story Page 8 Original Art (Prize Comics, 1946). Briefer's Frankenstein originals seldom come to market -- here is one of his better such efforts. It represents the series' comical period, in which Briefer imagined a jolly and adventurous Frankenstein Monster, a foreshadowing of Fred Gwynne's boisterous Herman Munster of the 1960s (Briefer also composed a grimmer series of Frankenstein stories). This lighthearted page, from "Frankenstein and the Time Machine," pictures the character in two costumes, as a superhero-type, and as a swashbuckling pirate. Ink over graphite on age-toned Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 13.5", mounted to a backing sheet of 13" x 17.75". Creases and tears along unevenly trimmed edges, with smudging/staining and handling wear. Personalized by Briefer in the upper margin. Intact, and as such in Very Good condition.
