Playboy #1 (HMH Publishing, 1953) CGC VF/NM 9.0 White pages. Beautiful copy! When we first laid eyes on this clean, snow-white cover, we suspected it was one of the latter-day reprints -- it just looked too good to be vintage. But vintage it is, and one of the finest copies you could ever hope to see! Hugh Hefner's Entertainment for Men was off to a rousing start, largely because of the Marilyn Monroe cover and "Sweetheart of the Month" two-page poster -- the forerunner of the Playmate of the Month gatefold. But Hefner had other ideas for his magazine, hinting at what was to come if the fledgling publication survived: fiction by literary greats like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Ambrose Bierce, sharp humor featuring Virgil Partch's VIP On Sex (included in this issue), a feature on college football, and a spotlight on Big Band music via an article on the Dorsey Brothers.
