Showcase #30 Aquaman (DC, 1961) CGC NM 9.4 White pages. Aquaman first appeared in More Fun Comics #73 nearly 20 years before he got his first solo comic with this issue! One of four highest-certified CGC copies, this crisp NM 9.4 copy has crystal clear colors and white pages! GPAnalysis lists the last sale of a CGC NM 9.4 in July 2018 at $24,000, prior to Aquaman's two movies and major shifts in the comics market. We recently offered a CGC NM- 9.2 copy with off-white to white pages in April of this year, for $7,200, and this gorgeous book will far surpass that.Starring Aquaman and Aqualad, the issue features the origin of the Silver Age Aquaman. The title's first Aquaman tryout issue proved successful, and the character quickly gained his own self-titled series following a four issue run across Showcase #30-33. Despite debuting in 1941, Aquaman only made his first cover appearance in The Brave and the Bold #28 in 1960, and Showcase #30 marks his first cover appearance outside of the Justice League. Howard Purcell and Sheldon Moldoff provided the cover, with story art by the late, great Ramona Fradon.
This book appears alongside many other highest-certified CGC Silver Age Aquaman issues featured in our Floor and Final sessions of the same sale. Overstreet 2023 NM- 9.2 value = $8,200. CGC census 5/24: 4 in 9.4, none higher.
