Captain America Comics #1 (Timely, 1941) CGC NM- 9.2 Off-white to white pages. One of the finest copies known of an issue that's rarely been certified over VF 8.0. It's a true "classic" by any definition, starting with the cover by the historic team of Jack Kirby and Joe Simon depicting the ultimate patriotic superhero attacking the ultimate villain, Adolf Hitler. It was a prophetic issue, preceding America's entering World War II by nearly a year. The origin and first appearance of Captain America and Bucky and the first appearance of the Red Skull inside this issue combine to make this #7 on Overstreet's list of Top 100 Golden Age Comics. Auction prices realized in recent years suggest it should be ranked even higher! The Near Mint 9.4 San Francisco Copy fetched $915,000 in 2019, and less than three years later garnered over three times as much at $3,120,000, portending this offering obliterating the Overstreet 2022 listed value.
