Description
The Great Mouse Detective Basil, Dr. Dawson, and Olivia Pair of Layout Drawing by Rob Minkoff (Walt Disney, 1986). "Actually, it's elementary my dear Dawson." Basil of Baker Street answers the astonished Dr. Dawson, carefully loading the gun in his hands. These wonderful 16-field layout drawings can be found at about the 8:24 and 8:32 marks in the film as the two characters continue their first conversation, one drawing featuring Basil gathering pillows and the other capturing his movement as he prepares to take a shot at the pillows Dr. Dawson is holding. The drawings are full of personality and rendered in graphite with color pencil on 16-field animation paper. The full figures measure around 13.25'' x 7'' and 11.5'' x 6.5'' with the characters combined. The first is rendered in a 12'' x 9'' box. These drawings were created by supervising animator Rob Minkoff, best known for his work on The Lion King and The Little Mermaid. They would have been used to determine the layout of the characters and props in the scene. The second is labeled Sc-268.1, Seq. - 001 0238, and BG - 267.2 in the bottom right with a note of 12F along the top border. The pages exhibit mild edge and handling wear, faint superficial wrinkles, and light smudges. They are in Good to Very Good condition overall.Auction Info
