Description
Space Pirate Captain Harlock Captain Harlock Production Cel and Animation Drawing (Toei Animation, c. 1978-79). Captain Harlock takes the spotlight in this lot, featuring a marvelous hand-painted production cel with matching animation drawing of the iconic space pirate from his eponymous 1970s animated series. The emblematic anti-hero was created by the renowned manga artist Leiji Matsumoto (1938 - 2023), making his first appearance in the 1977 manga Space Pirate Captain Harlock with the anime premiering the following year. Rebellious and romantic, Harlock believes that individuals should fight for what they believe is right above anything else, opposing any kind of subjugation and followed by a crew of outcasts aboard the Arcadia. Looking stoic, Harlock is featured in a close up side profile image measuring 5.75" x 7.25" on the 12 field cel which bears a production code in the upper right. Accompanying the cel is its matching animation drawing rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field animation paper with its production code found in the lower right. Please note that the drawing has adhered to the back of the cel. With typical handling and edge wear including the noted adhesion, minor paint wear/loss from the adhesion, and minor signs of acetate deterioration, overall, the lot is in Good to Very Good condition.More information about Toei Animation.
