Description
Space Battleship Yamato Daisuke Shima, Shiro Sanada, Susumu Kodai, Yuki Mori, and Yoshikazu Aihara Production Cel (Academy Productions, c. 1974-75). From the incredibly influential anime series Space Battleship Yamato (known in the West as Star Blazers), we have in this lot an incredibly rare hand-painted production cel featuring five crew members of the titular spaceship. Created originally by Yoshinobu Nishizaki with direction by the legendary Leiji Matsumoto, the emblematic anime is widely regarded as one of the most influential thanks to its complex storylines and fascinating characters that impacted the creation of momentous anime like Super Dimension Fortress Macross and Mobile Suit Gundam, among many others. This spectacular 13.5" x 10.5" hand-painted cel shows Daisuke Shima (Mark Venture in the Star Blazers version) measuring 2.25", Shiro Sanada (Stephen Sandor) standing 4.25", Susumu Kodai (Derek Wildstar) measuring 4.5" tall, Yuki Mori (Nova Forrester) standing at 4.75", and Yoshikazu Aihara (Homer Glitchman) measuring 5.25". The four-layer cel shows considerable warping, surface scratches that don't affect the art, bleeding on the paint, light fading on the linework, and minor paint wear.
