Description

Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal "The Man of the Slashing Sword" Tomoe Yukishiro Production Cel with Key Master Background (Studio Deen, 1999). The incredible Key Master setup offered in this lot features a stupendous image of Kenshin's first wife, Tomoe Yukishiro, from the prequel series of OVAs Samurai x: Trust and Betrayal. Despite departing from the more light-hearted tone of the anime series, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal is widely regarded as a great addition to the story of Kenshin, telling us the backstory of his vow never to take another life. This peaceful image can be seen at the 7:35 mark of the first episode, "The Man of the Slashing Sword," as Tomoe's fiancee promises to return with a groundcherry from his travels, not knowing that this would be the last time they will see each other. The two-layer production cel has Tomoe next to a chabudai, with the character measuring 2" x 4", and showcasing the rest of the background characters. Rendered in gouache, the gorgeous Key Master background showcases the finely detailed restaurant, measuring 14" x 9.25" on the background board. The layers have adhered to each other. The cel and the background show staple holes in the top and bottom edges. Overall, the lot shows minor handling and edge wear from production.
